At Union Bank, we understand that education and environmental responsibility sits at the heart of any sustainable future for Nigeria. And so, through EDU 360, our education focused social investment programme and in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education, we continue to translate that conviction into lasting change in the communities we serve.
In our most recent intervention, members of our 2022 to 2024 Management Trainee cohort, supported by UnionCares, our CSR arm, conceived and delivered a comprehensive renovation of Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. The cohort set out to improve the school’s infrastructure and create a cleaner, healthier and more inspiring environment for pupils and teachers alike.

The team delivered a full programme of upgrades. Eleven pit latrines were converted into modern water closet (WC) toilets for pupils, a new borehole that now guarantees reliable access to clean water, four dedicated toilets were added for teachers, and six washbasins were installed. The classrooms were fully refurbished with new tiling and fresh paint, pupils received essential stationery. A generating set and a television were also installed to support learning that draws on modern technology.

According to Olufunmilola Aluko, Union Bank’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, the initiative reflects what becomes possible when young professionals are trusted with purpose. She said, “Our 2022 to 2024 Management Trainees did not just complete a CSR mandate, they identified a need, rallied around it, and delivered real change for real children,” she said. “At Union Bank, we believe impact begins from within, and UnionCares exists to channel the talent and passion of our people into communities that need it most.”
The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the Headmaster, Kazeem Runsewe; the Education Secretary, Barrister Tajudeen Tijani; Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer; Olufisayo Adelekun, Head, Strategic Communications; and Tosin Finnih, Head, Business Advisory. With the handover of these facilities, Union Bank and its 2022 to 2024 Management Trainee cohort have helped secure a brighter and healthier future for the pupils of Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School.
